ABSTRACT

The article analyses the peculiarities of legal regulation of state funding of jury trial maintenance in Ukraine. It has been established that public funding of the judicial system in Ukraine is currently extremely limited, which is a consequence of the economic crisis in Ukraine due to the temporary annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, permanent military clashes in the east of Ukraine and the global pandemic coronavirus. Moreover, in economically developed countries, the level of state funding of the judicial system directly depends on the economic potential of the state and its stability in the global economic market. Therefore, it is necessary for Ukraine, first of all, to move towards improving its position within the global economic market and overcoming all manifestations of economic crisis. It has been established that jury trial is one of the key institutions of judicial power, the judiciary and have proved the urgency of further improvement of jury trial mechanisms, but only in the criminal proceedings, because in case of their adoption by the Supreme Council of Ukraine, jury trials will not have any legitimacy in civil proceedings. On the basis of the cited statistical data it was established that the monetary compensation for jury trial in Ukraine is minimal in comparison to the USA, Canada or France. The UK, on the contrary, does not provide for monetary compensation of jurors in its legislation;only travel and per diem compensation exist. The high level of jury monetary compensation depends first of all on the social and economic development of the country. Concludingly, the legislator's actions of the recent years are directed at the classical jury trial model, which exists in many countries of the world, with an appropriate level of financial assistance and an appropriate level of logistical support. © 2022 Seventh Sense Research Group®.

ABSTRACT

Despite the reduction of restrictive measures imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the problem of organizing distance learning continues to be topical. Distance learning imposes a much greater responsibility on teachers, giving them more of a workload as learning technologies change rapidly and teachers have to actively adapt to innovations, devoting a lot of time to preparing appropriate materials to ensure the best learning outcomes. The aim of the study is to detect the use of the most effective means of organizing distance learning by teachers. The study is based on a survey of university professors who were teaching in the distance mode during 2020-2021 active administrative restrictions. Opportunities for the use of various services in the organization of distance learning are analyzed and the drawbacks and advantages of the distance learning system are highlighted. The study reveals previously unapparent issues that arose in the course of distance work in quarantine. These include, first and foremost, the high physical workload of teachers, the many technical problems that arose in the transition to distance learning, the lack of teachers’ competencies, which needs to be urgently addressed, and the complicated coordination of the learning process. Despite the problems identified, the authors argue that the system of distance learning can and must be adopted and further developed as an additional supporting direction in the organization of the learning process, which will allow educational institutions to promptly shift to distance learning as needed. © 2022. ABSTRACT

The paper deals with the analysis of the sources of competitiveness in the group of small farmers during the first wave of COVID-19. The aim is to reveal the drivers of farmer's success under introduced institutional measures. In particular, the paper addresses the following research questions: Does the group of small farmers catch up the opportunity to enhance their business? What are the sources of farmers' success? The results show that almost two third of interviewees were affected by the first wave of COVID-19 in the production and sale. The farmers faced problems with delivery of inputs, hiring labour inputs, increased sanitary requirements, limited or functionless some marketing channels and the ban on foreign trade. On the other hand, the analysis revealed that the costumers increased their demand on local and higher quality food. Moreover, farmers introduced several business innovations, such as the introduction of online payment methods and online technologies in the sale. Furthermore, they were pushed to speed up the prepared investments projects. These activities helped to increase the sales during the first wave of the COVID-19 and might represent drivers of success in their future business.

ABSTRACT

By the beginning of COVID pandemic, remote education technology have was being implemented at some level by almost every educational institution, but the following lockdown forced the world to accelerate this process. In these circumstances, a lack of laboratory practice in online engineering education was revealed. The existing lab equipment, even quite modern, was focused on offline laboratory experience, and required enough efforts to be reachable from the outside. The International Scientific and Educational Center “National Instruments – Polytechnic” possessed a number of virtual instrumentation lab stations called NI ELVIS II, which had been being used in education for more than 10 years and allowed the replacement outdated bulky instruments with computer-based all-in-one virtual measurement solutions. But even these devices required additional development to allow students to work remotely, did not allow them to work in groups and manage access control. The new product applied by our professors called NI ELVIS III appeared to be a perfect solution to establish online lab practice. We managed to run several labs in electronics course with almost zero configuration, group collaboration and possible real-time teacher supervision. The paper describes the experience of applying NI ELVIS III in remote electronics lab, the benefits and caveats of using this platform. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
